Gabriel Luna, MD
Dr. Gabriel Luna is an experienced cataract surgeon, board‑certified ophthalmologist, and Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. With more than 15 years of clinical and surgical experience, he is widely recognized as an expert and top refractive cataract surgery specialist in central Massachusetts, particularly in the Worcester area. Dr. Luna is known for managing complex cataract cases and serves as a trusted referral resource for both patients and physicians throughout the region.
Previously at UMass Memorial Health and UMass Chan Medical School, Dr. Luna held multiple leadership roles within the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, including Ambulatory Physician Leader, Physician Quality Officer, Director of Anterior Segment, and Operating Room Leader. In these positions, he led initiatives that enhanced surgical quality, patient safety, and operational efficiency across ophthalmic services.
Dr. Luna is formally trained in Lean problem‑solving methodologies and holds white, yellow, green, and black belt certifications through UMass Memorial Health. He applies these principles to improve surgical outcomes, streamline care delivery, and elevate the patient experience. He also served as Co‑Chair of Graduate Medical Education for the Interprofessional Trainee Quality Council and completed the Physician Leadership Development Program, contributing for many years to system‑wide quality improvement efforts in ophthalmology.
Dr. Luna is currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration at the Isenberg School of Management at UMass Amherst. Outside of medicine, he enjoys mountain climbing, hiking and spending time in nature with his wife, staying active at the gym, cooking, and playing music together.
